Rail is the most sustainable mode of transport in Europe. For the next generation of passenger trains to be successful, innovative and affordable solutions are needed. In this context, the Shift2Rail project CARBODIN belonging to Innovation Programme 1, focused on different areas.
Within WS8, CARBODIN also built a software able to generate different layouts for interiors using a hybrid desktop and VR Headset tool, known as Virtual Reality Configuration Tool. The solution has been designed with scalability and modularity in mind so that it is possible to implement new features like real time global illumination, weight distribution heatmaps and anchor points investigation.

Within its WS8, CARBODIN developed an innovative plug-and-play system for application to modular floors.
Through its application, future trains will allow a highly aesthetic design while ensuring the possibility of adapting the internal layout to numerous requirements. Moreover, the CARBODIN demonstrator allows quick and easy assembly and disassembly operation, beside reducing the weight of the overall car body.

Within WS10, CARBODIN investigated the opportunities offered by innovative technologies in future train cabins. CARBODIN analysed how Human Machine Interfaces can improve the comfort of train drivers, a necessary step to develop the driving cabin of the future.
